Great Quote

"The person, be it gentlemen or lady, who has not pleasure in a good novel, must be intolerably stupid."

~ Jane Austen

I loved this quote by Jane Austen because you could see her love for great writing! I think that you can see that she not only wrote great novels, but was also fond of reading a good one herself!!!!

A Baby's Secret

 A Baby’s Secret

I'm just a little baby who didn't quite make it there;
I went straight to be with Jesus but I'm waiting for you here.

Dont you fret about me, mommy, I'm all right -
and most blest, I'd have loved to stay there with you,
but the Shepherd knows whats best.

Many dwelling here where I live, waited years to enter in;
struggled through a world of sorrow, and their lives were marred with sin.

So sweet mommy, don't you sorrow, wipe those tears and chase the gloom;
I went straight to Jesus' bosom, from my lovely mothers womb.

Thank you for the life you gave me, it was brief, but don't complain;
I have all of heaven's glory, suffered none of earthling's pain.

I'll be waiting for you, Mommy - you and Daddy, and the rest.
 I'll be with you then forever, and will give you all a kiss.

- J.C Bromfield

I publish this in honor of all those who have lost an unborn child, and especially to a dear friend.

Humility In Service

MIGHTY GOD,

I humble myself for faculties misused,
 opportunities neglected,
 words ill-advised,

I repent of my folly and inconsiderate ways,
 my broken resolutions, untrue service,
 my backsliding steps, my vain thoughts.

O bury my sins in the ocean of Jesus' blood
 and let no evil result from my fretful temper, unseemly behavior, provoking pettiness.

If by unkindness I have wounded or hurt another,
 do thou pour in the balm of heavenly consolation;

If I have turned coldly from the need, misery, grief,
 do not in just anger forsake me:

If I have withheld relief from the penury and pain,
 do not withhold thy gracious bounty from me.

If I have shunned those who have offended me,
 keep open the door of thy heart to my need.

Fill me with an over-flowing ocean of compassion,
 the reign of love my motive,
 the law of love my rule.

O thou God of all grace, make me more thankful,
  more humble;

Inspire me with a deep sense of my unworthiness
 arising from the depravity of my nature, my omitted duties, my unimproved advantages, thy commands violated by me.

With all my calls to gratitude and joy
 may I remember that I have reason for sorrow
 and humiliation;

O give me the repentance unto life;
Cement my oneness with my blessed Lord,
 that faith may adhere to him more immovably,
 that love may entwine itself round him
 more tightly,
that his Spirit may pervade every fiber
 of my being.

Then send me out to make him known
  to my fellow-men.

The Salt of The Earth

 I was listening to a sermon today and the preacher was using the example that Christ often uses in the Bible, of Christians being the salt of the Earth. After the sermon was over I started to ponder just what being the salt meant. We usually use the fact that salt is a gift from God to give flavor to otherwise bland food. Yes I would agree that salt gives flavor but then it struck me that when I eat salt on something I am immediately thirsty for water.
 We are not only to be the salt of the earth for flavor but also to cause a thirst for God like no one has ever known! If we are truly living a Christ centered life and showing the peace, joy, and love of God then we are going to cause those around us to thirst after the God that fills our lives. They are going to wonder why we have joy even in the difficult times and can rejoice so greatly during the good times. There will be a natural wonder at the glory shining from our lives and the fact that we give God the glory for all that He does. Once we have caused this thirst in those around us, we are to share this water that God has given to us, through others when we ourselves thirsted to know the love of God.

"As cold water to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country."  ~Proverbs 25:25

Because God has made us to be the salt of the earth we have three main missions.

1. To cause a thirst for God
2. To preserve the gift of God's love
3. To give flavor to the world that they may taste the goodness of God's love

These are all very important missions. We must never take them lightly and yet so often we do. Why do we make trivial the dying souls of men that know not what it is like to be given a cup of cold water when they thirst in the desert? Why do we not seek to give this precious gift to all those we possibly can? God's word says that if we are not being a salty flavor in the mouths of those lost souls around us then we are worth nothing but being trampled under the feet of men. God does not use His words lightly!

"Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savor, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out and trodden under foot of men."  ~Matthew 5:13

How brightly do you shine?
Arise oh ye servants of THE MOST HIGH KING! Let us be faithful servants doing the will of our great and merciful master! Let us be His light in a dark world bringing a thirst, and the water to those lost souls around us. And let us never lose our saltiness in this lost world!

God's Love

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish but have everlasting life."

~John 3:16

 This is a verse often quoted to tell people about how much God loves us. He loved us enough so as to be willing to send his only son to pay the penalty for our sins.
 Last night I heard a verse that really struck me between the eyes about how I am to love others. God gave us his perfect example of how to love others but he reminded us of that love in 1 John 3:16.

"Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren."

~ 1 John 3:16

Happy New Year

 Today we begin a new year. We know not what tomorrow may bring forth and so we look with anticipation to the future.
 We also look back on a year now finished with the hope that we have lived it to the glory of God. Knowing that we have most definately failed at times but that we have a God of forgiveness who allows us to learn from our mistakes. We have also had many victories won, many prayers answered, and many joys given.
 But in this moment of hope for the future and reminiscence of the past, may we never forget to be thankful for this present moment. We would not be here today if not for an Almighty God reigning sovereign over all.
 May we live each new day shining Christ's love and forgiveness all around us and may we remember that, "For me to live is Christ, but to die is gain." ~Philipians 1:21
 This new year brings things that we know not of but that we can face with confidence, courage, and faith as David did before Goliath knowing that our God has already won the victory. What need we to fear?

Happy New Year!!!!
